A comic is thin paper with a spine that creases under very little pressure, and its value lives in its condition. Packaging for this category has one job before any other: hold the book still. Everything else the print, the finish, the branding sits on top of that.

We build custom comic book boxes to the internal dimensions your issues actually need, then print them with your artwork. Storage for the shelf, mailers for the post, display units for the counter.

Box Styles Available

Short storage boxes hold roughly 150 to 175 bagged and boarded issues. Double-thickness handles and base panels, stackable, shipped flat with assembly scores marked on the underside so they disappear once the box is built.

Long storage boxes take 250 to 300 issues in the same width and height, extended to a 27½ inch interior length. Compatible with standard divider pads.

Flash-style comic mailers are one-piece and fold closed without tape. Variable-depth scoring lets a single mailer close tight on one comic or twelve, so you carry one SKU instead of four.

Graded slab shippers are cut to CGC, CBCS and PGX slab dimensions with fitted corner cavities, in single-slab and multi-slab configurations.

Magazine and oversize mailers handle trade paperbacks, graphic novels, omnibus editions and manga digests, scored in half-inch increments to two inches.

Subscription boxes are sized to a monthly pull list, printed inside and out, with filler pads to take up slack when the issue count drops.

Sizing to Comic Dimensions

Fit prevents spine roll, so we quote from the size class rather than a generic footprint:

All dimensions we quote are internal. Board caliper is added on top, so the box you receive fits the count you asked for. Send the size class and the number of bagged and boarded issues the box needs to hold, and we build the dieline from there.

Board Grade and Flute Selection

200 lb test is the bursting strength standard for comic storage the pressure the board withstands before rupturing. It is the figure collectors look for and the baseline we build storage boxes on.

ECT, or edge crush test, measures stacking strength rather than burst. It matters more when boxes sit stacked in a back room or on a pallet for months.

Flute choice balances strength against print quality. Double-wall built from B plus E flute is the strongest option for printed comic boxes: it folds with clean square corners, bundles flatter for storage and freight, and the fine E flute on the outer wall gives a smooth enough surface for full-colour artwork. Single-wall E flute suits mailers, where every ounce affects postage. Heavier C flute adds strength but shows ribbing through printed areas.

Archival Stock for Long-Term Storage

Standard kraft corrugated performs well in transit and poorly over years. Board in contact with newsprint for a long period can transfer acidity and accelerate yellowing along the edges.

For boxes that will hold a collection rather than move it, specify acid-free, lignin-free stock on your order and we will confirm the certification before production. White-lined board is the usual choice here, since it also gives the cleanest printing surface.

Regardless of stock, comics keep best stored away from direct sunlight, away from damp, and upright rather than stacked flat.

Printing and Finishing

Full CMYK printing, or CMYK plus one or two PMS spot colours where a character palette or publisher brand colour has to reproduce identically across reorders. Digital printing for shorter runs, offset where volume makes plates worthwhile.

The interior of a mailer lid is worth using. It is the panel a customer looks at directly with the comic still seated in the box, the natural place for a thank-you, a pull-list card, a variant reveal or a code.

Finishing options include gloss and matte lamination, soft touch, spot UV, embossing, debossing, and foil stamping in gold, silver, copper, or holographic. Fine flutes carry these cleanly; we will flag any combination that would show washboarding on your chosen board.

Dividers, Inserts and Filler Pads

Corrugated divider pads keep issues upright inside a storage box and stop the stack from leaning as it depletes. Printed with section headers or your logo, they also work as filler in a mailer when the issue count is low.

For graded slabs, we cut fitted cavities so the case cannot shift against a box wall. For multi-item subscription boxes, corrugated partitions separate comics from enamel pins, prints, or other inclusions.
