Match the Box to Your Lotion Container

How to measure your container: Measure the width, depth and full height, including the pump head, cap, or dispenser in its locked position. Then add about 2–3 mm (1/8 inch) to each dimension for easy insertion. If your container is tapered or curved, send us one sample or the bottle supplier's technical drawing, and we will size your custom lotion packaging from that.

Box Styles for Lotion Packaging

Reverse tuck end boxes are the standard lotion bottle boxes for bottles and tubes. They open at both ends, fold flat for storage, and are quick to pack by hand. They are the most cost-effective option for most skincare packaging boxes.

Auto-lock bottom boxes have a pre-glued base that snaps into place when opened. The locked bottom carries more weight, so they are the safer choice for large pump bottles and glass containers.

Materials and Board Thickness

As a general guide, choose 14pt–18pt board for tubes and bottles under 4 oz, and 18pt–24pt for 8 oz and larger bottles. Move to corrugated when a box will be shipped on its own or when the container is glass. The right board thickness prevents crushed corners, which are the most common complaint with skincare packaging boxes and lotion bottle boxes.

Lotions contain oils, and a leaking pump can stain an uncoated carton. We recommend a laminated or aqueous-coated finish on the outside, and a sealed or shrink-banded bottle inside, for any product that will be shipped.

Inserts and Protection

Inserts keep the container still, stop pumps from rattling, and make a box look finished when opened. Common options include:

• Cardboard inserts with a die-cut hole that holds a bottle or jar upright

Printing and Finishes

• The net quantity in both metric and US units, placed in the lower part of the front panel
• The full ingredient list, in descending order of predominance
• The name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor
• A domestic contact (address, phone number or website) for reporting adverse reactions, as required under the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA)
• Any warnings or directions your product needs, such as "For external use only" or sunscreen drug facts
