What a custom box order actually involves
Custom boxes Deltona, FL businesses order from us are built from scratch: we cut a dieline to your product's measurements, print your artwork on your chosen stock, and ship the boxes flat for you to assemble. There's no catalogue of fixed sizes to squeeze your product into.
Four specifications drive everything style, stock weight, printing method, and run size. Below is what each one means in practice.
Decision 1: Box style
Tuck-end cartons, straight tuck or reverse tuck, are the standard retail carton. They fold flat, assemble by hand in seconds, and suit anything light enough that the box isn't load-bearing: cosmetics, supplements, small electronics, candles.
Auto-lock and crash-lock bottoms pop open and lock in one motion. If someone on your team is packing hundreds of units by hand, this saves real time over a tuck-end.
Mailer boxes in corrugated stock are what you want if the box is the shipping container, not just the retail carton. One-piece construction, no tape needed on the seams, and the inside face can be printed.
Two-piece rigid boxes lid and base, magnetic or drawer style, don't fold flat and cost several times more per unit. Worth it when the box adds to the product's perceived value.
Window and display boxes let the product show through a clear patch, or stand upright on a counter.
Not sure which fits? Send a photo of the product, and we'll recommend a structure.
Decision 2: Stock and thickness
We run 10pt to 28pt (60lb to 400lb). The number is the caliper; higher means thicker and stiffer.
- 10pt to 14pt: light retail cartons, sleeves, small items under roughly half a pound
- 16pt to 18pt: The workhorse range for most retail boxes; enough rigidity that the panel doesn't bow
- 20pt to 28pt: Heavier products, or boxes that need to survive handling and restacking
- E-flute corrugated: Shipping and mailer boxes; the fluted layer absorbs impact
- Kraft unbleached and biodegradable; note that it darkens every printed colour, so one or two ink colours usually beat full-coverage designs
- Bux board and cardstock: Have a smooth white surface, the best choice when print quality is the priority
Too thin and the box dents in transit. Too thick and you're paying for material you don't need, plus higher shipping weight. Tell us the product weight, and we'll size the stock to it.
Decision 3: Printing
Four options on any order: no printing at all, CMYK, CMYK plus one PMS colour, or CMYK plus two PMS colours.
CMYK covers full-colour artwork, photographs, gradients, and illustrations. It's the default for most custom printed boxes.
PMS (Pantone) is a pre-mixed ink matched to an exact colour. If your brand uses a specific red or teal that has to be identical on every reorder, add it as a spot colour. CMYK can get close; PMS is exact. This matters most on solid blocks of brand colour.
You can print the inside of the box as well as the outside, which costs less than most people expect and changes the moment the customer opens it.
Decision 4: Finishing
Lamination protects the print and changes how the box feels. Gloss makes colour pop and reflects light. Matte reduces glare and hides fingerprints. Soft-touch adds a suede-like surface and stops toner chipping.
On top of that: spot UV to gloss one element against a matte background, foil stamping in gold, silver or holographic, embossing to raise a logo, debossing to press it in. Aqueous coating is the economical option when you want basic protection without a laminate film.
Die cutting, gluing, scoring, and perforation are included on every order not billed separately.
Run size and wholesale pricing
Minimum run is 100 boxes. From there, per-unit cost drops as quantity climbs, because the setup work is spread across more units. The step from 500 to 5,000 is usually where the pricing shift becomes significant enough to plan your ordering around.
For wholesale and repeat orders, we keep your dieline and colour build on file, so reorders skip the setup stage entirely and come back matching your previous run. If you're ordering on a schedule, tell us, and we'll hold your specs.
What isn't on your invoice
No die or plate charges, regardless of how unusual your shape is. No design fee; our team builds the dieline and a 3D mockup, with revisions included. No shipping cost to Deltona or anywhere in Florida.
Your quote states the final price, the shipping, and the production time, all confirmed in writing before any payment is taken.
Proofing and turnaround
You will get a flat-view proof and a 3D mockup before anything prints. Physical samples are available on request if you want to hold the stock before committing to a full run.
Standard production is 7–8 business days after you approve artwork. Proof approval is the point where the clock starts, so a fast sign-off is the single biggest factor in how quickly your boxes arrive.
