Custom Boxes Built for How Merced Actually Ships
Merced sits at the center of the San Joaquin Valley which means most packaging leaving this city has two jobs that packaging in coastal cities doesn't. It has to survive summer temperatures that regularly clear 100°F, and it has to travel. A box going from a Merced warehouse to a Los Angeles customer covers roughly 280 miles down Highway 99 and I-5. One heading to the Bay Area runs about 130 miles. Corrugated board loses measurable stacking strength as humidity and heat rise, so a box specced for a climate-controlled Seattle route can arrive in Bakersfield looking soft at the corners.
We build to that reality. Tell us where your product ships and how it's palletized, and we'll spec the board grade to match instead of defaulting to the cheapest option.
What Merced Businesses Order Most
Merced County's economy runs on almonds, sweet potatoes, dairy and row crops. Growers and co-packers ordering from us typically need 32 ECT or 44 ECT corrugated for outer shipping cases, often with a moisture-resistant coating for cold-chain or field-pack conditions. Retail-facing subscription boxes for direct-to-consumer nut and produce brands usually run B-flute or E-flute mailers with full-color exterior printing and an interior print for unboxing.
UC Merced startups and campus-adjacent brands
Founders coming out of the university's Venture Lab pipeline rarely want 5,000 units of anything. They want 100 to 500 branded boxes to test a product before committing. Our 100-unit floor exists specifically for this you can validate a design, put real product in front of buyers, then scale the same die line without paying to re-tool.
Retail, cosmetics and personal care
Skincare, candle and soap makers around Merced and Atwater order rigid setup boxes and cardstock folding cartons with soft-touch lamination or spot UV. These are the products where a box carries the price point, and where the difference between 18pt and 24pt board is immediately obvious in a customer's hand.
Cannabis operators
Merced County has licensed cultivators and manufacturers. California requires child-resistant, opaque, tamper-evident packaging with specific label placement. We produce compliant CR rigid boxes, mylar barrier bags and pre-roll tubes, and we'll leave the correct label real estate in your die line so you aren't reprinting after a compliance review.
Choosing Your Material
| Material | Typical use in Merced | Board specs we run |
|---|---|---|
| Corrugated | Ag shipping, e-commerce outers, pallet cases | E, B, C flute; 32–48 ECT |
| Kraft | Organic and artisanal goods, refill packs | 12pt–24pt, unbleached or bleached |
| Cardstock / SBS | Retail cartons, cosmetics, food | 14pt–24pt, white or coated back |
| Rigid | Luxury gifting, electronics, cannabis CR | 2–3mm greyboard, wrapped |
Corrugated is the workhorse. The fluted middle layer absorbs impact, which is what you want for anything crossing the Valley on a truck. If you're stacking pallets more than four high, tell us — we'll move you up an ECT grade.
Kraft is unbleached and reads as sustainable without needing a claim on the box. It's fully recyclable and it takes single-color or two-color printing beautifully. It does not take photographic imagery well; if your design has gradients, use coated stock instead.
Rigid doesn't collapse. It's the heaviest and most expensive option per unit, and it's the right call when the box is part of the product's perceived value jewelry, high-end supplements, gift sets.
Printing and Finishing
We run CMYK offset and digital, plus PMS spot color matching when your brand color has to be exact across reorders. Available finishes:
- Gloss, matte and soft-touch lamination
- Spot UV and gloss AQ
- Foil stamping (gold, silver, holographic)
- Embossing and debossing
- Die cutting, scoring, perforation, window patching
Matte lamination is the practical pick for boxes that get handled a lot it hides fingerprints, which gloss does not. For anything sitting in a sunlit retail display, ask us about UV-stable inks.
Sizing, Minimums and Cost
Every box is made to your dimensions length, width and height, to the eighth of an inch. There are no die charges and no plate charges, so a custom size costs the same as a standard one.
Our minimum is 50 boxes per design (mylar bags run 500 per design, 1,000 total). Per-unit cost drops sharply with volume: the difference between 50 and 1,000 units is usually 40–55%, and between 1,000 and 5,000 another 20–30%. If you're close to a break point, we'll tell you.
Unsure of your size? Send us the product dimensions or ship us a sample. We'll spec the box around it, including the internal clearance needed so the product doesn't shift in transit.

- Delivery shipped flat, freight-free to Merced and surrounding Central Valley addresses.
Why Not Just Buy Stock Boxes Locally?
If you need a box today to ship one item, a local pack-and-ship counter in Merced is genuinely the faster answer. What they can't do is print your logo, match your brand color, build a die line around your product, or give you 500 identical units at a wholesale rate. Those are different jobs. If you're shipping the same product repeatedly and want it to look like it came from your brand rather than from a supply closet, that's the work we do.
