Small runs, two jobs, one box
Most Tiverton businesses are not shipping pallets. They are producing in small batches and selling through two channels at once a farm stand or shop counter, and an online store reaching customers across New England and beyond.
That dual use is the real packaging problem here, and it is different from what a national brand faces. A box built to look good on a shelf at Four Corners often fails in a courier network. A box built for shipping usually looks like nothing on a table. Most small producers end up buying two, or compromising with one that does neither well.
It is solvable, but it has to be decided before tooling. Tell us both channels when you request a quote and we will design for the harder one.
Ordering from a supplier you can't visit
There is no commercial box plant in Tiverton. There is not one in Newport County. Whoever you buy printed packaging from, you are buying remotely.
That changes the questions worth asking. Not "can I tour the facility" but: what proof do I see before it prints, can I hold a sample first, how long does it take to reach Rhode Island, and who fixes it if the run is wrong.
We print, finish, die-cut and ship from our own facility. Every order gets a free 3D digital proof artwork wrapped onto the actual structure, folds included and nothing goes to press until you approve it. Physical samples are available on request for bulk orders.
A digital proof shows layout and colour. It cannot show you thickness, feel, or how a finish behaves under real light. If you are choosing between matte and gloss, or between 18pt and 24pt board, request both samples. Ten seconds holding them settles what a week of emails will not.
Lead times to Newport County
Production runs 8 to 12 business days after proof approval. Rush production is 4 to 6 business days, and it has to be requested at quote stage rather than after scheduling.
Ground transit adds several days on top. Tiverton sits close to the Massachusetts line and within reach of the Providence and Fall River freight corridors, so delivery into the area is straightforward once shipment is in the region.
For seasonal businesses this matters more than it sounds. If your boxes are for the summer trade, a holiday market or a product launch, count backwards: production, plus transit, plus a buffer for a proof revision. Then order. Boxes ship flat where the style allows, which keeps freight cost down.
What Tiverton businesses tend to package
Farm and food producers. Preserves, honey, baked goods, produce boxes. Food packaging carries requirements decorative packaging does not grease resistance, food-safe interior specification, and moisture handling. Say what is going inside and we will spec accordingly.
Aquaculture and seafood. Coastal Rhode Island supports shellfish and seafood businesses. Packaging here deals with moisture and cold-chain conditions that ordinary cartons do not survive, which usually means a coated or barrier-lined interior.
Four Corners retail and artisans. Candles, soap, ceramics, prints, textiles. Small runs, shelf presentation, and packaging that survives being packed and unpacked at markets.
Marine and nautical goods. Chandlery, gear and gift items. Often awkward shapes needing die-cut inserts rather than a standard carton.
Online sellers. Businesses in small coastal towns frequently sell nationally, so packaging doubles as shipping. Box weight and dimensions become a direct freight cost, not just a design decision.
Materials
Cardboard, 16pt–24pt. The retail default. Prints sharply, ships flat, assembles quickly. Go heavier for anything standing on a shelf or carrying weight.
Kraft. Unbleached, recyclable, and the natural fit for farm, coastal and artisan brands. It mutes ink, so bright artwork prints duller than it looks on screen foil or debossing often outperforms heavy colour on kraft.
Corrugated. For anything shipped without an outer carton. E-flute for single parcels, B-flute where boxes stack.
Rigid. Gift sets and premium lines where the box is part of the purchase and gets kept.
Describe the product and where it sells, and we will recommend rather than upsell.
Printing and finishing
Full CMYK on every stock, with PMS matching where a brand colour has to be exact.
Matte lamination hides handling marks and suits understated, natural positioning. Gloss deepens colour and works for food and bright artwork. Spot UV over matte puts shine on the logo alone and is the best-value finish available. Foil and embossing suit gift and premium lines.
One finish done well beats three stacked particularly on small runs, where every extra pass is a larger share of your unit cost.
Costs and minimums
Minimum order is 50 boxes. Design support is free and there are no die or plate charges, which means a box built to your exact dimensions costs no more in tooling than a stock size.
Unit price is driven by material, quantity, finishing passes and box size. Cost per box falls steeply between 100 and 1,000 units, then levels off. Tell us your budget and quantity and we will show you what changes at each price break rather than quoting one figure.
Free shipping applies on orders to Rhode Island.
What we won't claim
We are not located in Tiverton. Any packaging supplier claiming a local presence there is describing a website, not a facility, and you should ask them for the address.
What we offer instead is a manufacturer you deal with directly, a proof before anything prints, samples in the post, and free delivery to your door.
If you need boxes in forty-eight hours, we are the wrong answer and a print shop in Providence or Fall River is the right one. For a planned run with a real lead time, ordering direct from the manufacturer gets you better pricing and more control than going through an intermediary.
